Abstract

Drug abuse remains one of the major problems in Indonesia, with serious implications
for the younger generation. Communication plays a crucial role in prevention efforts, as
effective strategies in message delivery can influence public awareness. This study aims to
analyze the impact of the National Narcotics Agency’s (BNN) communication strategies on
public awareness regarding the dangers of drug abuse. An explanatory survey method was
employed with quota sampling, involving 61 respondents from RW 006 Kebon Pala, East
Jakarta. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Pearson correlation,
simple regression, and validity-reliability tests with SPSS 23. The results show a very strong
relationship between BNN’s communication strategies and public awareness (r = 0.807).
Regression analysis also indicates a significant effect, although the contribution is relatively
small. The findings suggest that BNN’s persuasive communication is effective but still requires
innovation through digital media and collaborative community-based strategies.
Keywords: communication strategy, BNN, public awareness, drug abuse.
